Wan is a Partner within the Insurance Consulting team, providing advice and services to non-life insurance clients.

He has a wide set of experiences across non-life insurance in reserving, pricing and capital modelling. He also has a keen interest and specialises in the use of technology in actuarial processes, from small scale automation to end-to-end transformation of actuarial processes. Wan is also responsible for a number of tools and automated solution that BW licenses to clients.


Significant experience:

  • reserving experience ranging from smaller London Market insurers, to Lloyd’s syndicates and pan-European companies across a number of commercial and consumer lines. This also included reserving on a number of different GAAP bases and on IFRS basis. Wan is also a non-life practising certificate holder in the UK and a Head of Actuarial Function in Ireland
  • experience in reviewing and implementing automation in actuarial processes. He has conducted assurance reviews over into existing actuarial processes as well as led implementations of an enterprise end-to-end actuarial solutions for large multi-national organisations
  • supported a number of clients through the internal model validation reviews, from either a first line or second line perspective. For Lloyd’s clients, this involved both Major Model Change validation and the business as usual annual validation
  • experience in the setting and reviewing of pricing for commercial lines businesses and accounts. This also includes experience in the wider pricing activities that help drive and support underwriting decisions
  • experience in Solvency II for non-life insurers. Wan was one of the co-authors of the Application of the Solvency II Actuarial Function to General Insurance Firms paper which went on to win the Brian Hey prize
  • experience in the construction and review of risk management documents, including risk policies, ORSAs, recovery plans as well as Bermudian GSSAs and CISSAs
  • experience in non-life insurance operations and how the different parts of an organisation interconnect with the Actuarial function
