Barnett Waddingham continues as principal contractor to the CMI

Following a rigorous tender, the Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI) has reappointed Barnett Waddingham as its principal contractor, to provide its Secretariat function.

Continuous Mortality Investigation Limited (‘the CMI’) is wholly owned by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries but has an independent executive and management.

The CMI’s mission is to produce high-quality impartial analysis, standard tables and models of mortality and morbidity for long-term insurance products and pension scheme liabilities on behalf of subscribers and, in doing so, to further actuarial understanding.

"this reappointment is a testament to the hard work, in-depth knowledge and great support our teams have demonstrated over the last 30 years."

In the role of Secretariat, Barnett Waddingham will continue to be responsible for collecting and processing the data that underpins much of the CMI’s work, as well as supporting the CMI committees to produce research and software. The in-house team and service will continue to be led by Dave Grimshaw, Partner and Scott Eason, Partner.

Jonathan Hughes, Deputy Chair of the CMI Executive Committee, said: “The CMI undertook a comprehensive re-tender and was impressed by the quality of submissions. After careful consideration, the combination of proven capabilities and the commitment to continual improvement in respect of providing the services led us to re-appoint Barnett Waddingham.  We look forward to continuing to build on the long-standing relationship over the coming years.”

Scott Eason, Head of Insurance & Longevity Consulting at Barnett Waddingham, said: “Our support has continued to evolve to meet the changing needs of the CMI and this reappointment is a testament to the hard work, in-depth knowledge and great support our teams have demonstrated over the last 30 years.

“The recent tender process gave us the ability to discuss the future of the CMI, and the role of the Secretariat in particular, and to agree improvements which will be embedded into our services now and throughout our relationship.”
